2021-Benefits-of-APC

March is Social Workers month! This year’s theme is “The Time is Right for Social Work.” The idea for the theme comes when the United States is just beginning to settle from the aftermath of the pandemic. March also marks the end of President Biden’s first year in office. While some aspects of life are starting to settle down, other areas are beginning to ramp up. With the ongoing war on Ukraine and rising gas prices, the need for social workers is increasing. The United States is currently facing severe economic downturns close to rivaling those of the Great Depression. As society shifts and changes, social workers are needed now more than ever. APC Home Health is proud to help contribute to this mission of helping those in our community. We're there for you, whether you’re from Edinburg, Brownsville, Laredo, or even El Paso!

According to the National Association of Social Workers, there are almost 720,000 social workers in the United States. Expected growth of 12% by 2030, social work is classified as one of the fastest-growing professions in the nation. Social work quickly became a vital part of our nation as they have played a crucial role in civil rights and women’s rights. Through social work, better working conditions and programs have been achieved. Some examples include limiting the workweek to 40 hours, establishing a minimum wage, and creating programs such as Social Security and Medicare.

Today, social work plays a critical role in interdisciplinary studies in areas like schools, hospitals and other health care facilities, nonprofit organizations, big corporations, and even the military. Social work fosters an equitable environment and creates a safer space for everyone. Social workers can help provide additional resources to students from low-income households, guide those suffering from mental health issues like depression and anxiety, and help minorities gain a louder voice in their local, state, and federal government. APC Home Health Services is doing our part in helping serve the Rio Grande Valley community with high-quality care and compassion through our dedicated nurses, providers, and attendants.

Our society continues to handle issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, systemic racism, economic inequality, global warming, and other crises. Social work continues to help create a safer and more inclusive environment, genuinely proving that The Time is Right for Social Work.
